The
3rd Corner in Ocean Beach

Wine
bars are the latest rage. They are popping out of the concrete
in every hip neighborhood of San Diego. The idea: Sell wine
by day and host wine drinkers by night. The best part is that
wine bars offer a better selection of wine then that limited
in restaurants and they offer it at retail price. The Third
Corner Wine Shop and Bistro in Ocean Beach has decided to tap
into this wine enthusiast’s market. Tables are dispersed
throughout the quaint shop, which houses more then 800 selections
of wine. Guests are invited to choose their bottle from the
floor and pay a five-dollar corkage fee to enjoy it in the bar.
The 3rd Corner stands by its collection, as every variety of
wine that they carry has been tasted and hand selected by the
Staff.
The menu has a carefully contrived sampling of food that will
match the pickiest palate and pair deliciously with any bottle
of wine. The only downside is the size of the portions. Dishes
such as the delicious baked brie in a puffed pastry appetizer
and the wild mushroom pasta dinner will leave you craving more.
If you like olives, however, the olive sampler is over flowing
with a fun variety. Food is available from 11:30 am until 1
am.
A room in the back offers a more comfortable setting with leather
couches and coffee tables, an area coveted by the early birds.
The 3rd Corner, which has only been open for three months, has
wait times of 1.5 hours and up at peak times on Friday and Saturday
nights, so if you can get away, weeknights might be the best
time to go.
Not a wine drinker? Enjoy the setting with good company anyway.
There is a full service bar with alcohol and beer to appease
the rebel in any group. So come, get cozy and try some new wines.
The 3rd Corner is located at 2265 Bacon Street in Ocean Beach.
