Celebrate
Mardi Gras in San Diego!
Article
written by C. Combs
As you may or may not know, San Diego has been known to throw
some pretty fun parties, and with that being said, there are
lots of BIG celebrations coming up that you won't want
to miss! This coming Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, San Diegans will
celebrate Mardi Gras.
The Gaslamp features a Mardi Gras celebration and this year
marks the tenth year of this huge event. This year the Mardi
Gras bash is fully contained and almost five times the size!
Even though you must be 21 and older, this party is expected
to host tens of thousands of guests. So, if you're ready to
party down, Tuesday, Feb. 28 is the day to don your purple,
green and gold. Hop on the trolley, slam a few Hurricanes and
beg for those colorful plastic beads.
This year's Mardi Gras Festival features the Masquerade Parade,
live music, Cajun food, contests and prizes, roving entertainment
and dancing. Tickets for the block party are $20 and the event
starts at 7pm and ends at midnight. For more information and
to purchase tickets, visit the Website
or call (619) 233-5008.
The
Gaslamp isn't the only place in San Diego that celebrates Mardi
Gras... Hillcrest also joins in the festivties for its fifth
annual soiree. Masks, beads and debauchery will be in full swing
at this year's Hillcrest Mardi Gras, taking place from 6-11
p.m. on Feb. 28. Revel in the purple, yellow and green glory
of the season with two stages of entertainment and catch live
musical performances by Tootie and The Lips Girls, Candye Kane
and Cash’d Out. This annual street party doubles as a
benefit event sponsored by the GSDBA Charitable Foundation and
the Hillcrest Business Association. For more info, visit www.hillcrestmardigras.org
If you plan to partake in the Mardi Gras festivities, please
be safe and have a designated driver if you will be drinking.
