Adams
Avenue Bicycles: Group rides for everyone

In a city that is brimming with athletes and outdoor enthusiasts,
it is surprisingly difficult to meet activity partners, especially
for bikers. It is awkward to introduce yourself while pedaling
through a training ride and you can’t always count on
spontaneous draft lines, when bikers converge on their way to
work. As difficult as it is to meet people while riding, it
is equally frustrating and time consuming to find the right
group of riders. Many group rides are intimidating. The riders
tend to have superiority complexes and they meet sporadically
at best. The ideal biking group would have few egos, abundant
friendly faces, consistency of riding times and positively energized
riders. Luckily, there is a neighborhood bike shop that has
all that and more.
Adams
Avenue Bicycles, located at 2606 Adams Avenue, hosts a variety
of rides that will suite any style of rider. For someone who
is just looking to take a light pedal around town or play on
their beach cruiser for a bit, the Thursday morning coffee-ride
might be a good fit. For the more serious biker looking for
motivation and camaraderie, the Sunday morning ride is a great
way to start the day. On Wednesday nights, the single speeds
are oiled up, although regular road bikes are welcome, and Thursday
nights the crew ducks into Florida Canyon, in Balboa Park, for
some mountain biking kicks. The girls have claimed Thursday
night as “girls night out”, so they leave separate
from the guys.
Don’t fret if your bike is not ready for riding, Adams
Avenue bicycles is a full service shop and retailer. Everyone
on staff is thorough and experienced. They can set you on the
right path for purchasing, refurbishing or rebuilding.
Adams Avenue rides are a great way to meet people, get riding
and get to know the city of San Diego. This group knows the
best routes for minimizing traffic concerns and optimizing the
workout, and they are privy to the best coffee and pancake shops
in the city. Most importantly they love bikes, they love biking
and they love meeting new bikers. Although it has been argued
that biking is not a team sport, it is simply not as much fun
to bike alone. Especially after you have ridden with the crew
at Adams Avenue.
