You don’t have to be a surfer to reap the benefits of ocean water this summer. If sunset strolls are more your speed, then jump in a kayak and go play in the bay. Aqua Adventures (San Diego’s Kayak Center), located at Hospitality Point on Mission Bay Drive, can meet all your kayak needs, even if you don’t know what your kayak needs are. Enjoy the serenity of a sunset from the water or watch Sea Worlds fireworks display from a first class location. Learn how to attack white-water rivers or explore the wonders of La Jolla’s sea caves. Aqua Adventures can help you take kayaking as far as you want to go.

Not sure if kayaking is for you? The best time to try it on is Thursday nights at 6:00 pm. Aqua Adventures hosts a social paddle. Anyone is invited and the pace is casual. The cost is $15 for a two-hour trip or free if you bring your own boat. Several employees accompany the group and they are more then willing to share tips with the beginners and lend advice to anyone who is interested. It is a "social" paddle and therefore a great place to meet potential paddle partners.

If you decide that once a week is not enough, Aqua Adventures offers rentals by the hour ($15), day ($50) or week ($200). They have a range of classes that cover everything from beginning kayaking and capsize recovery, to night navigation and how to read tides and currents. There are clinics for every level and trips for every personality.

If you still think surfers have all the fun, join Aqua Adventures for Social Surfing the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Learn how to ride the waves in a kayak, without the worries of getting caught up on your feet.
