San Diego's, Over The Line Tournament is a worldwide competition
that originated in America's Finest City. The game is softball
played on a small field in the sand and is played by men and
women from 18 to 80 years-old. But is this really
a game or a party? One thing is for sure, this event is not
for the family.
More than 50 years old, the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club's
(OMBAC) ball-and-bat Over-The-Line (OTL) tournament is still
going strong with an estimation of 52,000 people attending this
year. More than just a game, OTL is a a certain spectator's
dream and if you're idea of a good time is a night at Dick's
Last Resort then you'll be sure to have a good time.
Admission is FREE but OMBAC asks it's guests to follow the "B
Rules": No bottles, babies or bowsers (dogs). In 2005,
the tourney folks have added two additional B's to the rules:
no birds or boa constrictors and it is strongly advised not
to ride your bike. This year 1,200 teams will play out nearly
2,400 games, over two weekends, in an attempt to be crowned
world champions.
