Fit Rock Climbing in San Diego

Are you tired of treadmills, sick of stationary bikes and bored
with barbells? Do fitness centers seem sterile and expensive?
Are rows of the same machine too mind-numbing to think about?
There is a new solution for staying in shape. Rock climbing
combines tension, core-strength, endurance and balance to create
a whole-body work out that is fun and affordable. In short,
it is a fantastic way to get fit. Rock climbing is the act of
traversing or climbing rock by means of specialized body movements.
Indoor gyms designate their climbing routes with colored tags.
A successful climb is one in which you make it to the top without
falling. This requires a combination of strength and smarts,
because you can’t always muscle up the trickier climbs.
As you build strength, the routes increase in difficulty, allowing
for endless physical and mental challenges.
Rock climbing is generally associated with loons who like to
take risks and obsessive outdoor enthusiasts. Don’t worry;
you won’t be swinging from a rope several hundred feet
in the air on your first day. In fact, you don’t ever
have to tie into a rope if you don’t want to. Bouldering
is an increasingly popular form of climbing and you are never
more then six feet off the ground. Bouldering is a great way
to break into the sport because you don’t need a partner.
You can get a feel for the movements and build strength, before
getting on the longer routes. It is also a great way to meet
people, as there is usually a friendly face at the bouldering
wall, attempting to maneuver their way up the same routes.
If the big walls are what make your mouth water, there are other
ways to find a partner. San Diego Climbers Coalition has a page
on their web site dedicated to climbers looking for climbers.

Indoor climbing gyms are great places to begin your adventure
and start having more fun with fitness. Professional staff members
are always willing to “show you the ropes” and safety
classes and outings are offered in abundance.
So where can you get your climb on?
