Barbecue, Barbeque, Bar–b-que, BBQ... no matter how you
spell it, Hogg's Beach BBQ serves just that and it truly is
excellent. Hogg's turns out some of the best babecued pork,
beef brisket, chicken and ribs in town. The meats here are slowly
smoked for an extended period of time over a blend of woods
and they use the dry rub method which makes it very flavorful
even without the BBQ sauce. But speaking of BBQ sauce, the four
different kinds that they do offer are they're own recipe and
they are very tasty.
Hogg's occupies an old cottage in the heart of La Jolla's downtown
village and offers indoor and outdoor seating, take out and
catering. The menu here is lengthy and extends past the BBQ
specialties. If you ever in a mood for a hotdog, you might want
to stop by and check out this place 'cuz they've got the Chicago
Dog, Texas Dog, Memphis Dog, corndogs and mini corn dogs for
a nice little snack.
If I had to pick just one thing off the menu to try, I would
have to tell you to try the Memphis Pulled Pork Sandwich...
It is so juicy and succulent your mouth will water before the
next bite. The meat is piled high on a cornmeal-dusted bun with
a bit of the Hogg's tangy barbecue sauce. The buns here are
the best in town... no joke, so sweet that I could just eat
it plain.
Hogg's Beach BBQ is a great place for lunch and dinner, and
it makes a great pick-me-up after a day at the beach. Be sure
