Hodad’s:
A Delicious Mouth Full
Article

On a regular day it is guaranteed that Hodad’s (Ocean
Beach) will be packed, and that is simply because the food is
delicious! The menu basically consists of burgers, and an entire
slew of them. With just about every option, from the double,
to the non-burger (the veggie) and everything in between-- Hodad's
has it covered. The portions are enormous and are what get people
in the door, and sometimes lined out the door and coming back
time and time again. It's almost as if the staff finds amusement
in watching customers try and wrap their jaws around the food.
It definitely requires two hands and some skill. I suggest keeping
the paper ON when you're eating. It keeps everything in place,
otherwise the enormous pile of grub will likely end up everywhere
other than in your mouth, and that would be a tragedy. The food
is cheap, and you’ll most likely have leftovers…so
you are basically paying once for two meals!
A
heads up, the staff can be a little “quirky” to
put it nicely. Customer service, unfortunately is not the goal
of the restaurant, the food is. The waiters generally have the
indie look, tattoo’s and body piercings coat their skin,
and they usually seem hungover or annoyed—possibly because
they had to work that day? Don’t be surprised if you aren’t
greeted or even seated for that matter. Conversations with the
waiter may be quick and to the point, staff may lean on you
while taking your order, or push you over and take a seat. Beverages
are most likely not refilled, or refilled as you are finishing
your meal. But believe me, it's worth it! Yes, the burgers (and
fries, oh don’t forget the onion rings) are THAT good.
I continue coming back to Hodad’s because I have yet to
find a restaurant joint that offers such delicious food, in
such a cool place for such affordable prices. Heck, I can stand
a little attitude for that matter.
The
atmosphere inside Hodad’s is a something to feast your
eyes on. Unique and vintage license plates coat the walls from
top to bottom featuring amusing slogans such as BOOZER, 4 DRKNG,
and WHTRASH. While waiting for your food, its fun to look around
and see exactly what you can find. If you’d prefer a more
open view, try grabbing a front-row seat at the window. You’ll
get an up close look at Newport Avenue and all the interesting
characters that pass. It’s also kind of fun because the
waiters have to step outside the restaurant to take customers'
orders; it’s my little way of stickin’ it to em’.
Hodad’s truly is the best place to absorb a delicious
meal and the OB environment!
